How to connect a Shopify store for India Post dispatch
2 min readUpdated 20 January 2026PostVery product team
Connecting a store takes two minutes. Getting clean dispatch out of it takes a little preparation — mostly around addresses, weights and which orders should enter the dispatch queue at all.
Before you connect
- Decide which order states are dispatch-ready: paid only, or also COD orders awaiting confirmation.
- Make sure product weights are filled in. Missing weights are the most common cause of a stalled batch.
- Standardise your address fields — a usable phone number and a six-digit PIN code on every order.
- Agree a tag convention for orders that should not go via India Post.
The connection itself
- 1From the PostVery workspace, choose Add store and select Shopify.
- 2Approve the requested scopes: read orders, read products, write fulfilment references.
- 3Choose the order statuses that should sync into the dispatch queue.
- 4Run a first sync limited to the last seven days and review the queue before enabling continuous sync.
The Shopify app is in private beta and not yet listed on the Shopify App Store. Waitlisted merchants receive an install link directly.
Why each permission is requested
| Scope | Used for |
|---|---|
| read_orders | Pulling order, address and payment-type information into the dispatch queue |
| read_products | Reading weights and dimensions for package profiles |
| write_fulfillments | Attaching the shipment reference back to the order after dispatch |
Running the first batch
Start with ten orders rather than the whole backlog. Prepare them, print the labels on the stock you actually use, and check the address block fits. Once a batch of ten is clean, scale up.
